If you’re ever in an elevator with Jared Plummer, owner of Two Roosters Ice Cream, be prepared to hear his favorite ice breaker: “What is your favorite ice cream?"

With the help of his wife, Kelsey Plummer, Jared Plummer officially launched Two Roosters Ice Cream in March 2015, after five years of planning. He sells a wide variety of ice cream flavors made with care and the best ingredients from his unique ice cream truck.

Plummer grew up in rural North Carolina and spent hot summer days making ice cream at his grandmother’s house. Outside her house were two rooster decorations from which the name, Two Roosters, originated.

People can recognize the Two Roosters Ice Cream truck by its unique vintage look. Plummer bought the recognizable turquoise 1965 Ford truck off of Craigslist and paired it with a matching vintage-looking camper. This “swag wagon,” as Plummer calls it, can be spotted in the Raleigh area.

Their most popular ice cream flavors are vanilla and chocolate, but other flavors include Lucky Charms, pizza and, his personal favorite, butterscotch haystack. “You can always tell a good ice cream maker by his or her vanilla ice cream,” Plummer said.

Plummer also advocates for local small businesses by incorporating their food into his ice cream flavors. He aims to keep his business community-centric, a big element of the Two Roosters’ identity.
